We have compiled your go-to guide for Australia Day in the nation's capital. First cab off the ranks is the National Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony, held lakeside. Then make a beeline for the shores of Lake Burley Griffin with your picnic gear as it comes alive with The Great Aussie Picnic. The Picnic will feature five action-packed FREE entertainment hubs, showcasing the best of Canberra talent complete with food trucks and drink vendors. But wait, there's more. Head to Commonwealth Park and catch the TICKETED concert of Australian music legends, featuring live performances from Jame Reyne, Daryl Braithwaite, Lee Kernaghan and more.
For the safety of our patrons and the greater Canberra community, all event attendees and ticket holders will be required to download the Check In CBR app onto their phone prior to the event. On arrival, attendees must check in using the app and show proof of check in to event staff before they will be allowed into the event or they will be turned away at the door.
National Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony - FREE
The National Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony kicks off at 9am on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, at Rond Terrace. This year's ceremony will welcome 25 of Australia's newest citizens and is open to the public.
The Great Aussie Picnic – FREE
Five action-packed free entertainment hubs take centre stage along the Lake Burley Griffin bridge to bridge walk, to celebrate Australia Day. There’s live entertainment, kids performers, food trucks, licensed bars and more. Gather your family and friends to spend the day exploring, or BYO picnic and blanket and set up at your favourite hub. Each hub has a different music theme – so make sure you check out the options before you leave home. This event will be socially distanced and COVID safe. Ankle Biters will be a family affair with the kids front and centre down at Kings Park from 11am - 6:30pm. Enjoy an array of free kids entertainment throughout the day. Be delighted by JP Koala, Hall and District Axemen’s Club, Mr Tim & The Fuzzy Elbows, Prosperous Mountain Dragon and Lion Dance, Ring Mistress, Warehouse Circus and Wiradjuri Echoes.
Garden Jive will transform the Patrick White Lawns into the Garden Jive Jazz Club from 11am – 7:30pm. Drift away to the smooth sounds of jazz from Husband & Wife, J.E.P Trio, One Seventeen, Sharp In Tensions, Three H and Viktor Rufus Trio.
Rockin Regatta will have you belting out Aussie pub rock classics with some of Canberra’s favourite live cover bands at Regatta Point from 11am – 7:30pm. Rock out with 3 Broken Strings, 5150, Bec Taylor, H-Cee Family, Monica Moore Duo and Night Train.
Rhythm N Brews will get you into the groove with live original music curated by Music ACT and Canberra’s very best craft beers. Bring your brew crew to Commonwealth Place from 11am – 7:30pm. The crisp sounds on tap are best served cold and include: Becoming, J.E.P Trio, Kim Yang, Kng George, Lisa Richards, MAXO and Sophie Edwards.
Sand Grooves will be bringing the beach party vibes to Aspen Island from 11am – 7:30pm. Put your hands up for local Canberra DJs, Brittany De Marco, Haylee Karmer, Joshua Brian, Unknown Avenue, Mtty and Zach Knows.
Stage 88 Concert – TICKETS ON SALE NOW
It’s the return of the king with outdoor live music back in the capital. The pièce de resistance of the day is a huge picnic style concert, Stage 88, in Commonwealth Park, from 1pm – 9pm. With socially distanced picnic spots, catch live performances from Australian music legends including James Reyne, Daryl Braithwaite, Lee Kernaghan, Kingswood, Fanny Lumsden and more.
