Canberrans will be invited to picnic along the shores of Lake Burley Griffin from 6pm. The fireworks displays will be at 9pm and midnight.
While a concert will not form part of Canberra’s New Year’s Eve celebrations this year, there will be roving entertainers and local buskers at various sites on the lake foreshore. They will perform until 9pm.
There will be two fireworks displays to ring in the New Year, the first at 9pm and the second at midnight.
The firework displays will be located on barges in central, west, and east basin. We invite you to enjoy the fireworks from anywhere along the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. Please see the map for locations of fireworks.
Additional vantage points also include the Black Mountain Nature Reserve, Mount Ainslie Nature Reserve and Red Hill Nature Reserve.
Yes, there will be some food trucks and drink vendors around the lake’s foreshore. But we encourage you to take advantage of some of the special New Year’s Eve offers on picnic hampers and grazing plates. Yes, there will be some road and car park closures as a result of the event. More detail around closures will be avaliable soon.
When viewing the fireworks, don’t forget to use the CheckIn CBR app, and ensure you spread out and avoid crowds, there will be plenty of space for everyone.
