Overview

Mark your calendars: The Canberra Writers Festival is back, bigger and bolder than ever. More than 200 writers, thinkers, and creators will take part in over 100 events across Canberra's most iconic cultural institutions and venues.

From politics and current affairs to food, lifestyle, memoir, crime, fantasy, romance and contemporary fiction, this year's program has something for everyone.

For the first time, the festival also features a Kids, Young Adult (YA) and Family Day at the National Museum of Australia, with appearances from some of Australia's best storytellers and illustrators.

Audiences can look forward to a stellar line-up including Jane Harper, Trent Dalton, Em Rusciano, Heather Rose and Omar el Akkad alongside international powerhouses Eric Puchner and Sophie Gilbert.

From fiery debates at the Museum of Australian Democracy to late-night entertainment at Verity Lane and Smith's Alternative, plus a brand-new Festival Marquee bookshop and coffee carts on the Patrick White Lawns - there's something for every reader, thinker and dreamer. Aspiring writers and screenwriters will be spoilt for choice with 12 masterclasses to choose from.

The Canberra Writers Festival 2025 promises the juiciest conversations, fresh perspectives, and plenty of inspiration. Don't miss it - this will be one for the books.
