Overview
Opening Night Film: Daughter's Daughter
The long-awaited sophomore feature from Huang Xi (Missing Johnny, 2017), Daughter's Daughter is a masterfully restrained portrait of generational wounds, maternal regret, and the fragile search for redemption. Co-produced by Taiwanese cinema icons Hou Hsiao-Hsien and Sylvia Chang, with legendary editor Ching-Song Liao (Flowers of Shanghai, 1998) and evocative cinematography by Yao Hung-I (Long Day's Journey into Night, 2018).
Starstruck Section
The Chronicles of Libidoists, from acclaimed director Yang Ya-Che (The Bold, the Corrupt, and the Beautiful, 2017), unites Wu Kang-Ren, Liu Chu-Ping, and Alisia Liang in a sensuous, poetic tale of lust, eroticism, and forbidden desire.
Organ Child marks a searing tonal shift for box office director Chieh Hsueh Bin (Do You Love Me as I Love You, 2020), delivering an uncompromising revenge thriller steeped in grief and moral ambiguity.
Cinephile Must-See
Flowers of Shanghai (4K restoration) by Hou Hsiao-Hsien adapts Han Bangqing's Wu-language novel, later translated by Eileen Chang. Featuring Tony Leung, Michiko Hada, Michelle Reis, and Carina Lau, this hypnotic period piece is cinematic poetry.
Stranger Eyes (2025), the first Singaporean feature in Venice's Official Competition, sees Yeo Siew Hua return with a haunting mystery, joined by cinematographer Hideho Urata, editor Jean-Christophe Bouzy (Titane), and sound designer Tu Duu-Chih.
