Overview

Precarious Proximity brings together artists Jo Victoria, Robyn Campbell, and Julie Bartholomew in an exploration of the dynamic relationship between glass and porcelain. These visually striking yet technically contrasting materials share transformative processes under heat, creating a delicate balance of distinction and harmony.

Through their work, the artists celebrate the interplay of solidity and openness, reflection and refraction, and shadows and light, inviting audiences to experience the tactile and sensual qualities of these materials. Robyn Campbell’s pieces explore the interdependence of glass and porcelain in reflecting the natural world. Jo Victoria draws inspiration from the interaction of light and shadow across translucent and fragmented forms. Julie Bartholomew’s Evanescence series addresses the material transformations of glass and porcelain, reflecting the impacts of climate change on melting glaciers.

This compelling exhibition highlights the interconnectedness of humanity and environment, showcasing the creative possibilities of aligning contrasting materials.
