Whirlygig and the Book by Heidi Smith

Overview
'Whirlygig and the book' is an experimental project that attempts to consolidate multiple aspects of Heidi Smith's art making. The aim is to generate a series of interconnected textiles, drawings and sculptural objects. Engagement with these materials and processes all run parallel in Smith's creative investigation and the final exhibition outcome will resemble an uncanny loom that weaves a clothe of ideas, tatterdemalion costumes and expresses the uncanny experience of advanced illness and disability.
The viewer is invited to consider the benefits of creative pursuits, art and craft in the everyday, well- being and mental health support through art making, regenerative physical, emotional and social interactions that develop through multidisciplinary making. To play, to make, to be.
