Overview

Sri Lanka – a nation often overlooked, misunderstood, and underrepresented. Do you know its story? Its origins, customs, traditions, and way of life? Perhaps not…

Fear not – Siw Sanda Roo invites you on a captivating journey across Sri Lanka, brought to life through the power and elegance of Sri Lankan traditional dance.

In this dynamic 2-hour showcase, the three-part performance will explore the nation's cherished Mahaweli Ganga (Mahaweli River) and its vital role in sustaining native life. The ancient tale of King Vijaya and Kuweni – the origin story of Sri Lanka's people and the legend of Swarnamali, the golden tree goddess, and her selfless act to create the sacred site of Ruwanwelisaya.

The stories are told through English poetry, with additional historical context provided in the program to deepen your understanding of Sri Lanka's heritage.

This marks the second performance by Australian Sri Lankan students from Bhagya School of Dance on the Canberra Theatre stage.

What sets this production apart is it's fusion of all Sri Lankan dance styles, including Wes performers, traditional drummers, classical music, and vibrant visual artistry, all woven together into one cultural tapestry.

Don't miss the chance to be part of this experience – join them, and journey through story, spirit, and rhythm.
