Cyberpunk at the NFSA

Overview
Emerging in the 1980s, cyberpunk is a genre of dystopian science fiction blending gritty urban decay with a high-tech future. The word 'cyberpunk' was coined by Bruce Bethke in his short story of the same name about a teen hacker, published in Amazing Stories in 1983. It was quickly adopted to describe the growing body of work that was already exploring advanced technology, ruthless corporate capitalism, social inequality, the manipulation of reality and the loss of personal autonomy.
