Meanwhile in Canberra

Overview
Meanwhile in Canberra is a collection of 7 bold and whimsical prints that find the extraordinary in a city too often dismissed by outsiders as boringly ordinary.
Capitalising on the distinct visual languages of lino, risograph, and mokuhanga (Japanese woodblock) printmaking, Meanwhile in Canberra celebrates icons such as Telstra Tower, Lake Burley Griffin and the Big Powerful Owl in a fresh and unexpected light.
The prints in this exhibition borrow from the Japanese ukiyo-e tradition of producing a series of thematically connected works for a mass audience, with each composition responding directly to the time and place in which it was made. Like Hokusai's 100 Views of Mt Fuji, it's high time Canberra's natural and unnatural wonders take their turn in the spotlight.
