Overview

ABDUCTOR — Retrospective + Live Hybrid A/V Performance is a two-part immersive event at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia that brings audiences into the dark, cinematic universe of Embryoroom, the multimedia practice of New York–based artist Edward Quist. Spanning more than three decades of experimental work across film, sound, installation, and performance, the evening offers a rare opportunity to experience both archival material and new, unreleased work within a single curated program.

The event begins with The Embryo Retrospective, a film-based presentation tracing the evolution of Embryoroom's practice through a selection of rare and historically significant works. Much of this material has never been released digitally and has primarily been shown in gallery installations and international screenings, offering attendees an exclusive glimpse into the artist's early developments and key collaborations with experimental electronic pioneers.

The second half of the evening presents ABDUCTOR, a world-first hybrid audio-visual live performance combining deep cinematic techno with preview material from an upcoming feature-length film and album created in collaboration with Canberra-based label Stock Grazing. Designed as a seated listening and viewing experience, the program offers audiences an immersive encounter with a globally recognised experimental artist at a pivotal moment in his evolving practice.
