Overview

Inspired by the colours, textures and forms of the Australian environment, this exhibition brings together a selection of two-dimensional and three-dimensional works that reflect on waterways, vegetation and geological formations. Through these varied approaches, Poole captures both the familiarity and shifting moods of the landscape, inviting viewers to experience nature through layered interpretations of place.

A distinctive aspect of Poole's practice is the dialogue between painting and ceramics. Many of the exhibited paintings are paired with complementary ceramic forms, creating an interplay between surface, shape and space that blurs the boundaries between 2D and 3D expression. Her Scribbly Gum ceramic works are particularly recognisable for their textured surfaces, inspired by the characteristic markings found on Australian Scribbly Gum trees.

The exhibition also includes a series of small landscape paintings inspired by the format favoured by Australian Impressionists such as Arthur Streeton and Tom Roberts. Measuring just 9 x 5 inches, these intimate works reflect Poole's interest in capturing fleeting impressions of the landscape. In some pieces, discarded and irregularly shaped boards have been repurposed as painting surfaces, giving renewed life to found materials while further emphasising the organic and evolving nature of her practice.
