Overview

Free creative writing workshop with Emma Batchelor.

This free three-hour workshop will give participants an insight into working creatively across disciplines, particularly developing writing in response to (or 'in conversation with') movement, visual and decorative art. Through discussion, observation, and practical exercises, participants will explore how different art forms can inspire the content, tone, rhythm, and energy of their writing, whether it be poetry, prose or for live performance.

This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in nurturing their creativity or developing their creative writing practice.

Emma Batchelor (she/her) is a queer, autistic author, multidisciplinary artist, and advocate from Kamberri (Canberra). Emma's practice spans writing, contemporary dance, and visual and decorative art. As a dance artist, she has performed for QL2 Dance, as well as for her brother, choreographer James Batchelor. In 2024, she was a resident artist at The Street Theatre, where she developed new, interdisciplinary performance work. Emma is currently developing a new novel manuscript with funding support from artsACT. Her debut novel, 'Now that I see you', was the winner of the Australian/ Vogel Literary Award.
