Overview

The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) presents A Day at the Movies, an engaging new dementia-friendly film program created especially for cinema lovers living with dementia, along with their families, friends, carers, and companions.

Designed with comfort and accessibility in mind, each screening takes place in a relaxed and welcoming environment, with comfortable seating, low lighting, and reduced sound levels. A short intermission offers attendees the opportunity to stretch and refresh. NFSA staff, all trained in dementia awareness through Dementia Australia, are available throughout the visit to provide assistance and support. Thanks to Carers ACT, carers receive a complimentary ticket, and every guest is treated to a free Bulla ice cream.

The series is brought to you by film and media experts Dr Jodi Brooks (Project Lead, University of New South Wales), Dr Fincina Hopgood (University of New England), and independent screen culture and audience development specialist Karina Libbey.

An initiative of the ACT Government, the program is funded by the ACT Government and aligns with its Age-Friendly City Plan, with in-kind support from the National Film and Sound Archive (Venue Partner), Carers ACT, Dementia Australia, the ACT Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing and Bulla Dairy Foods.
