School Holidays: Mini Movie Makers

Overview

Over two action-packed days, young filmmakers will explore short-form storytelling and learn the essentials of filmmaking. Guided by filmmaker and experienced photo access educator Nathan Hughes, participants will develop, shoot and edit their own 90- 120-second film.

From developing an original idea and planning their shoot, capturing footage and editing their film, participants will get hands-on experience across every stage of the process. Using accessible equipment and free, open-source software, students will work independently or in teams on their own creative projects while sharing ideas and learning alongside other young filmmakers.

The workshop culminates in a screening at 4 pm on the second day, where completed films will be shared.

No previous filmmaking experience is required; just bring your imagination. Suitable for ages 8-16 years old.

This is a hands-on, self-directed workshop, and students are encouraged to take initiative and continue shooting in between sessions as they bring their ideas to life.
