Overview

Explore Trails, an exhibition bringing together two distinct bodies of work by Canberra artist Sally Black. Inspired by local landscapes and community, these works span painting, printmaking, and drawing.

The exhibition features layered watercolour monotypes and paintings shaped by time spent along the Murrumbidgee River and Ginninderry Conservation Corridor. Following walking tracks and shifting viewpoints, these impressionistic pieces echo the fluid rhythm and movement of the river itself.

Alongside these natural landscapes is a series of over 20 pen and watercolour sketches capturing bookshops across the Canberra region. These detailed drawings form the foundation of a hand-drawn Canberra Bookshop Trail Map, tracing a unique journey from one shop doorway to the next.

Developed from her studio at Strathnairn Arts, Sally's practice reflects a deep connection to place. Her artwork is represented in the ACT Public Art Collection, inviting viewers to slow down and see both natural and built environments with fresh eyes.
