Access Canberra Event Coordination Guide

The Event Coordination Guide is a practical guide for planning public events in Canberra, outlining the approvals, permits and key contacts you may need. It helps organisers understand land and venue bookings, road and traffic management, safety and compliance requirements, and services such as liquor licensing, food safety, waste, noise, emergency services and funding.

The following resources have largely been prepared by the team at Australian Centre for Regional Events. These templates, guidelines and checklists can help you develop a great foundation from which to further build on your event delivery processes and event experience.

These are generic templates to provide you with a starting point for your event management and delivery. Please change them as needed to meet your event’s specific requirements.

Sustainable Event Program 

Sign up  to the Sustainable Event Program to make your event more sustainable and climate friendly. The program provides free access to practical advice, planning resources, signage and event equipment to support more sustainable event delivery.

Through the program, event organisers can receive support to:

  • reduce waste and improve recycling and organics separation
  • reduce energy and water use
  • lower greenhouse gas emissions
  • educate and raise awareness of sustainability issues with event visitors.

Free equipment is available to support your event, including bin covers and waste signage, water refill stations, Container Deposit Scheme collection bins, coffee cup recycling bins and promotional banners. Public events of any size held in the ACT can participate in the program, including school fetes, community fairs, sporting events, markets and major festivals.
